Dear Elizabeth,

On some occasions, I will take a verse or passage from scripture and share what am learning from it. On such days, I will begin with:

This is one of those days that we go straight to the word, then I will type a scripture and type as the inspiration comes. I hope this will give you a deeper understanding on what God says in His word.

Mathew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The moment I felt the incline to talk about this verse I thought to myself, “Lord, even I don’t know what this really means” …however I felt God was saying maybe it’s about time I learned because I had begun making many of my requests in the category of ‘all these things’

This verse has been used widely to encourage us to search for God first with Jeremiah in the background cheering on with the words:

“You will seek Him and You will find Him if you seek Him with all of your heart”

(Thanks Jeremiah, that is not vague at all.)

The verse promises that once we seek the Kingdom and His righteousness, ALL these things shall be added. Meaning these things come after, because you can only add to something that is already there. Most of u

s know what the other things are, plus they are described in the verses surrounding this highlighted text. They include but are not limited to: what to wear, what to eat, where to lay our heads and I bet Mathew edited out marriage from this powerful sermon of Jesus cause the good Lord knows we think about that, a lot . What then is the kingdom of God and His righteousness and how can it be attained.

If we were to imagine the kingdom of God as a place, we would need of a map to get there. God in His goodness would have provided a map beforehand. The map therefore must be, say it with me, google. Google knows everything. I kid, the map is the bible, the living word of God. Isaiah echoes this saying:

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

This voice is the word of God found in the bible. The kingdom of God is well displayed first in the old Testament as they showcased literal kingdoms and how they lived in honor to the king guided by a set of laws. We also should live in honor to our King guided by His principles laid before us. These principles then form His righteousness, being right with Him; doing what pleases Him. The old Testament through Stories, Psalms and proverbs describe righteous living whilst the new Testament through Gospels, parables and even a step further adding a personal touch in letters written to us to show us how to live a godly life. It’s all in there, like a map that shows us our destination and guides us on how to get there, the bible guides us to His kingdom and shows us how to be righteous.

His Kingdom is one of justice, mercy, peace and love calling us to be just, merciful, peaceful and loving. It also shows us what not to be; immoral, deceitful, full of pride or envy. These among many other things that are displayed across scripture. If we genuinely seek to find His kingdom and righteousness, it will be found. After which He can entrust us with spiritual and earthly riches because we have understood His heart.

Ps. This is not a blog, it's my letter to you.

With love, Mary:)
